12/17/10

Recently I recieved an email from a fan I met at a show who liked my artwork so much he wanted it tatooed along the whole side of his body. When he asked permission I thought "well maybe he might get it done small on his side".
I was wrong!! I was floored when I recieved an email from him with the pics.

To all those that love the work I do and go to such lengths to show me their gratitude, Thank you!! I am honored!!

And to Steven I am especially honored to know that you have a piece of my work on you like that. YOU ROCK!! All the BEST!!

SDCC Day 3 is out now on to 4. SAT.

Well the 3rd day of SDCC has come and gone. Now its SAT!!! For those that know it means mass of mounts of people off work and at the CON.

I would like to quickly mention just a small topic if I could. Con-Funk it’s that over whelming mist of all your other fellow humans that decided not shower and show up to this grand escapade. Not COOL!!

Now SPEEDSTICK and AXE BODY SPREAY or any of you other sweet smelling brands deodorants out there. Come to COMIC-CON set up a booth stations in the aisles and hand out your free packs. Hell your trying to make money and I feel that you need to consider the element of surprise on your marketing campaign. There are a few thousands of people that would love to receive your free smelling packs of goodness. Maybe there are those that don’t know they need it. But let me assure you that there are those that do. And I think it would be at least the one none comic book element accepted here. On behalf of all of us working here at COMIC-CON that fight the FUNK. Help us win the war on CON-FUNK.

Moving on to bigger and better. Yesterday was filled with lots of highs and one huge low. It was very humbling to have two really cool guys viewing my new work series and decide how much and which one of my paintings might need a home.

It’s always fun to talk to the new kid who has come to Comic –Con for the first time. I love giving free sketches out to those people. Just the amazement in the their eyes as they try and take in every aspect and visual overload.

Well it seems this entry will have to be cut shorter then I would like so I will say stay tuned.

All the BEST!!

SDCC Day to and on the Move.

For those that are keeping up I’ve been trying to post as much on the Facebook and Twitter.
So just a quick recap on you yesterday. The day revolved around my ass being stuck to my table. I met a tone real cool people and had old friends and fans return. It is always amazing to talk to those all way from other countries who make the trek out her just for this con.

I had a real cool conversation with a woman who was here from Manchester and works in a comic book store. Besides that she worked in a jail for inmate programs and helps run a crisis line for those in need. Along with that worked with group that teaches self-defense for women. Nicole and I thought she rocked and enjoyed talking to her again.
For those that don’t know there is nothing normal about Comic –Con and that comes down to the unique looking people. This guy walked up with a crazy Yosemite Sam mustache with big smiles. This beard had character and amazed me when he turned defying gravity on his face as me moved back and forth in conversation. I asked him is occupation and he replied with wild grin I am a gym couch. I though man that has to be crazy you walk in for the first time to your locale gym ready to work out and you get this guy. Not the waxed down muscle bulging common gym couch. You get the wild smile fire red gravity beard guy who looks like he just walked in off the street and says you ready to work.
Last the day ended with two friends who had bought work from me before trying to decide which painting to buy. That’s always a good problem to see.

Well that’s a quick thing for yesterday.

If you are at the con stop by at Table H12 at Aisle 900. We still have free posters to give out.
On to day Two Stay tuned.

All the Best!

FRANK FRAZETTA 1928-2010

Today I am sure is going to be a hard day for many people. I am sitting here trying to remember the first time I saw his art and what piece exactly I saw first. And as I think back my mind does not land on just one image it lands on many them. From what I recall his work has always been there in my eye directly through books or indirectly through other artists that have seen the genius in his work and have tried to capture it for themselves.

Taking another moment I think of his signature. Hands down that has to be one of the most recognized signatures in the world. To the point were others have even mimicked it in some way when finally signing their art. The F of his name always looked like a sword giving his signature such a great design that would burn in your mind. So when you saw that F again you would say yep that’s the Man the Myth the Legend….. that’s a Frazetta piece!

Many artists have tried to mirror his work in some form or fashion through character design, painting style, and subject placement. Be it man or beast his subjects would have the presence of power and movement ready to jump off the page. His beautiful women would look powerful with weapon in hand ready to take on any challenge. From the realistic to the pure fantasy Frazetta did all. He did it so well and set the bar so high it will be some time before any artists reach it. He has paved the way for many artists by showing them how to think outside the box and past the page.

Although I never did meet Frazetta I have to say THANK YOU!!! Thank you for all the hours of work you put down on paper and canvas. THANK YOU for showing us artists that the dream in our heads can look just as good down on paper.

THANK YOU.

[ARCHIVE] COREY BERNHARDT

I am so lucky to get opportunities to meet other artist and see how they work. I’m also lucky to get their art book. Corey Bernhardt is an Illustrator and Graphic Artist up in Sacramento CA. We’ve crossed paths a few times and had the chance to really talk at the Sac Drink and Draw a few months back.

We were talking about techniques and how we work in different mediums. Corey pulled out his art book and I new I had to have one. Knowing that it’s not a massed produced item made me want it that much more.

The week of Xmas I received a package with his book. For the past month or so this book has been on my desk and has been frequently opened while taking phone calls and having to do work.

Corey is a down to earth guy with wicked art skills. He has eye for great design, which compliments his illustration technique really well. The few oil paintings presented in the book are strong and have great color tone.

I look forward to seeing his future projects and getting more of his books.
To see more Corey Bernhardt’s work visit his website at www.archivedesignstudio.com.

To any other art friends out there. If you have an art book I WANT IT!!!
More soon.
